Found near water where they feed on plants, fish, insects & invertebrates, they eat by dipping underwater with their feet & tails in the air. The males are the colourful ones whereas the females have duller mottled brown feathers.
Twice a year ducks moult, losing their flight feathers & grounding them for a few weeks until they grow again. They fly in flocks, in the famous V formation like most migratory birds, in search of warmer weather. Little ducklings are able to run, swim and find food from their second day!
